The Slave

The Slave, Kateete is interpreting what bondage might mean to different people. We all have a crown of thorns from something. It could be colonialism.

One might see different messages in this painting. One might even ask, is it Jesus? The artist has depicted a Sudanese man. Notice the pyramids in the background, which are found in Sudan.

The markings on his face are symbolic and portray the number of people he has defeated and killed in battle.
The white man’s bullet has pierced through the chains, but has it killed the man?

And, who would Jesus look like were he to come back today?
