St. Josephine Bakhita

St. Bakhita was kidnapped as a young child and enslaved by Arab slave traders. Later on she was sold to an Italian merchant in Cairo who took her to Italy and freed her. She was taken to the house of the Canossians Sisters where she joined the religious community. During world war II, the area where the Community lived was not affected by the war and this was attributed to her Prayerful life
