El Molo

This 1995 portrait of an elderly El Molo man in Loyangalani, Turkana, is unique as Kateete knew little of the model’s life. The El Molo are considered one of Kenya’s endangered communities, their language is considered extinct.

Turkana has a hot climate of 40oc and above and one doesn’t need too much body covering. Lakapana wears a single fabric wrap around his waist and minimal jewellery.
The stones around his seat is a symbol of the stony look in the landscape whole around shores of Lake Turkana.
